A Project For Step Up Loudoun
We hypothesized that fresh produce wastage occurs due to the following key reasons:
Lack of Knowledge: Consumers are often unaware of how to select, store, and use fresh produce effectively.
Not knowing the "life of various produces" : Confusion around how long we have before the produce loses its vital nutrients or go stale.
Improper Storage: Incorrect storage methods result in faster spoilage of fruits and vegetables.
Overbuying: Purchasing more produce than can be consumed before it spoils.
Our survey results validated these hypotheses, confirming that these factors significantly contribute to fresh produce wastage.
Educate: Provide valuable information on how to select the best produce, understand expiration dates, and recognize signs of spoilage.
Create Awareness: Highlight the environmental and economic impacts of food waste and share inspiring stories of communities making a difference.
Promote Best Practices: Offer tips and tricks for proper storage, planning, and consumption
